A rare find in our continuing quest to provide original Cretan stone houses at a time when others are content to use new houses designed to appear "traditional". Set just off the square in a traditional village at the foot of the Apokoronas peninsular, the main part of this large house was built 110 years ago by the owners grandfather, although parts of the property may be up to 400 years old. Whilst the village retains its character and has not been developed for tourism, it is only a few miles from the larger settlements at Vrisses and Vamos, with the sandy beaches and resort of Georgioupolis being a 10 - 15 minute drive away. Each of the 5 bedrooms (3 doubles and 2 twins) has an en-suite shower/w.c and the shared living and dining area has a full kitchen with cooker, fridge freezer and compact washing machine. First floor terraces provide external seating and the original courtyard provides shade and a pleasant area to relax and enjoy the peaceful ambience of the village. The two first floor bedrooms are air conditioned, whilst the ground floor bedrooms, with thick stone walls, remain cool in the summer without the need for a/c. The walled private shaded courtyard, offers a relaxing environment for al fresco dining. The seperate pool area and garden offers a small main pool and a round childrens pool with decking and shower.

| Kalamitsi Alexandrou & surrounding area The small community of Kalamitsi Alexandrou is situated 3 km away from Vrisses. It is an old and well-preserved village with narrow streets, traditional architecture and the large, modern, cross-shaped and domed church of Agia Triada . The area is known for the impressively constructed underground reservoir "Softas" dating from the Turkish occupation. The village is tranquil and sleepy, with a small kafenion on the square, although the elderly owner tends to open rather sporadically . A little stroll away, another friendly Kafenion, run by the local priest, who is always happy to offer something simple to eat. The larger town of Vrisses, with its wonderful mountain stream and tavernas nestling under the shade of the huge plane trees is a fantastic place to while away the hours, try the taverna Kapri on the bridge, for excellent Sfakian pies with honey and a double equally good Greek coffee. |
