                                                             Kefalas Area Information

Situated to the northeast of Vamos, Kefalas  is a wonderful traditional village with a rich preservation of
local architecture and impressive old village churches. It owes its name to the first residents there, called
Kephalades, the leaders of the Byzantine settlers sent to Crete in 1182 by Alexios Komninos.
The village has two traditional Kafenions, serving coffee, drinks and meze. There is a taverna serving
Cretan food, and two mini markets. A van arrives daily at the village square selling fresh fish, vegetables
and fresh bread. The larger town of Vamos ( 5km away) has a larger selection of eating places and shops.

Close to Kefalas ( 10 mins drive)  is a small quiet bay, Obrosgialos bay, with a fish taverna, perfect for
swimming in the crystal clear waters.

This area is perfect for those wanting to enjoy Cretan filoxenia and culture in a beautiful village, and those
who enjoy walking, cycling  and sight seeing. The historic city of Chania is about 30 mins drive away.
