Situated in a quiet position in the village of Aptera, Marialena Villas offers a quiet retreat from the hustle of modern day life. With the stunning backdrop of the White Mountains, and views across the green fertile planes of Stylos, its a perfect place to relax and watch the stars come out in the clear evening sky. This small charming complex has two large swimming pools, one of the pools has a safe children's area, perfect for younger children. The villas are well spaced and detached and the gardens, flowers and fruit trees add splashes of colour and shade throughout the grounds. There are 4 two bedroom villas, each villa has a private terrace with outdoor furniture for al fresco dining. The well equipped kitchens offer everything one needs for a self catering holiday. All four villas have a spacious living areas furnished with comfortable sofas, tv, writing desk and working fire place for the cooler months. The master bedroom has a double bed, with en suite shower room, whilst the second bedroom has two twin beds. There is a main bathroom with tub and shower. Both bedrooms have air conditioning. Marialena Villas offer a peaceful base for exploring the beautiful villages of the Apokoronas area, and the West of Crete. Manolis, and his daughter Marialena, embody the true spirit of Cretan hospitality and are always more than happy to advise on any local tips and offer a cold drink at the shaded reception/cafe area . The local village square is only a short 500m stroll away, and offers a choice of three tavernas, serving traditional well prepared local specialities, a village shop and a charming traditional village kafenion ( traditional coffee shop ), whilst the next village along, Stylos, has several good river side traditional eateries . The nearest beaches are 4 km away ( 3 miles) Kiani Akti, and are long sandy and generally quiet, with crystal clear sea, perfect for swimming. A little further through the town of Kalives is another sandy beach, with several beach front tavernas.

| Area information for Aptera, Megala Chorafia This charming traditional village is set at the foothills of the dramatic White Mountains, overlooking the Bay of Souda and 10km East of Chania. The village of Aptera has three tavernas and a kafeneion (1912!) and, by taking the back roads, you can easily reach the surrounding villages of Stilos, Provarma, Neo Horio and Armeni by car. Peaceful and quiet, with the exception of local weddings, baptisms and name day celebrations, the village provides easy access (2km) to the National Highway and is a perfect base for exploring the area of Apokoronas and the wider area of western Crete. The ancient Greco-Roman city of Aptera is nearby,and is a large fascinating archaeological siteopen to the public. The site is particularly beautiful in spring time, when carpets of bright wild flowers cover the area. Close to this site is a fabulous Venetian castle, which offers some of the best views over the Bay of Souda. The area is ideal for walking, cycling and particularly suitable for those with an interest in the spring and autumn flowers. The nearest beach is approximately 4 km, at Kalami. |
