Area Information
The charming village of Prines was an important place during the Venetian occupation and the
church of St. Nicolas dates from the 13th century. All the necessary shops can be found in the village,
such as 2 supermarkets, a traditional kafenio and a taverna. The village itself is surrounded by olive
trees and is ideal for people who enjoy less crowded places, and like to be close to nature. The
nearby village of Atsipopoulo enjoys many winding cobbled lanes and traditional architecture, and is a
pleasant place for exploring and people watching , over a coffee at the village Kafeneon.
The city of Rethymnon, which is a 10 minute drive from Prines, has a wonderful Old Town with
winding lanes, and Venetian harbour and beautifully restored buildings. The city is now a University
town, and this is reflected by the many craft shops,excellent restaurants, traditional live music
venues and vibrant cafe bars. Rethymnon enjoys a long sandy coast line, and in the summer months
is a bustling cosmopolitan resort for visitors from all over the world.
