Still raining but .......
So last night our house guests cancelled because of the weather and Viki cooked a red Thai curry. Just as we sat down to eat, they called to say that we could still meet so they turned up and after a bit of a chat we all ( 6 of us) went to the kafeneion in Stilos. Takis insisted on filling the table, not only with food, but with another four people from the village.
Another party came in to have a sing-song and it was a superb night with us meeting some more new people. We ate boiled goat (vrasto), goat in tomato sauce (kokkinisto), fried cod in batter (bakaliaros) with garlic paste (skordalia), fresh field mushrooms(manitaria) and whitebait (picarel). Some beer and some wine to wash it down with and then some sort of lamb soup which was absolutely beautiful with cretan rusks dropped in and juice of half a lemon added for good measure. Just too much food to finish ........
We awoke this morning (Oxi Day in Greece, a bank holiday) to find it raining again but the day was made by Rue and Ida arriving for a brief visit from Agios Nikolaos. After a cup of tea and a chat we all went off to Gavalohori to eat at the taverna on the square. The food was excellent and mainly vegetarian (except the village sausages). Spicy cheese dip (tyrokafteri), Boureki (sort of potato, leek and veg pie), Imam (aubergine, stuffed) and a season salad with dill. Ida picked up the bill. We'll get you next time!
Between meals we have to finish the new web page for the villas in Agios Pavlos and get it published to the site.
